Emergency steps to protect artwork, antiques, and collectibles from fire, water, and environmental damage.
- 1Do NOT touch the surface of paintings or artwork with bare hands
- 2Move artwork away from direct sunlight and heat sources
- 3Do not attempt to clean smoke or soot from art — incorrect methods cause permanent damage
- 4If wet, allow artwork to air dry naturally in a controlled environment
- 5Do not stack wet paintings or prints on top of each other
- 6Keep sculptures and ceramics in a stable, dry location
- 7Document each item with photos showing current condition
- 8Note the location where each item was found for insurance

- 10Do not discard damaged frames — they may be restorable
