Electronics & Data Recovery Checklist
Protect damaged electronics and maximize data recovery chances after fire, water, or lightning damage.
- 1Do NOT power on water-damaged electronics — this causes short circuits
- 2Unplug all devices from power sources
- 3Do not attempt to open or dry electronics with heat
- 4Remove batteries if safely accessible
- 5Place small electronics in sealed bags to control environment
- 6Do not attempt DIY data recovery from damaged drives
- 7Document serial numbers and model info for insurance
- 8Keep all damaged devices — even if they appear destroyed
